Zion Williamson, a 6-foot-6 small forward from Spartanburg Day (SC) School announced his commitment to Duke on Saturday live on ESPN2.
Williamson is the No. 3 overall player for the Class of 2018 and the No. 2 small forward, according to our Big Shots National Rankings.
Since September, Williamson has taken official visits to Kansas (Sept. 30th), Kentucky (Oct. 13th), Duke (Oct. 20th), and North Carolina (Oct. 20th). Williamson also took unofficial visits to Clemson (Sept. 9th) and South Carolina (Sept. 16th).
This past week Kentucky (Jan 14th), Duke (Jan 16th), Clemson (Jan. 18th), South Carolina (Jan. 18th), and North Carolina (Jan. 18th) all made visits to give their final pitches to Williamson.
Our Big Shots evaluation on Williamson is that he is the nation’s top athlete for the Class of 2018. He draws crowds comparable to that of Lebron James in high school. His motor is special, a downhill driver that at 6-foot-6 270lbs not many defenders can stay in-front of. He is more than just an athlete with his ability to get to the rim, avoid charges, and compete at the highest level on the glass. Williamson embraced the spotlight like a superstar and the legend of Williamson will shine at Clemson next season.
Williamson joins small forward RJ Barrett, shooting guard Cam Reddish, and point guard Tre Jones for Duke’s 2018 recruiting class. The commitment of Williamson boosts the Blue Devils to the No. 1 overall class for 2018.
Williamson is averaging 37 points and 16.5 rebounds per game so far during his senior season.
