KJ Johnsona 6-foot-2 combo guard from Marshall County (TN) High School has announced his commitment to Lipscomb via Twitter on Wednesday.

What is Lipscomb getting with K.J. Johnson?

Johnson is a slender guard at 6-foot-2, but is a wiry strong style of player. Even with his frame he seeks contact and does a solid job finishing through contact in the paint. What I like most about Johnson is that he a fearless competitor. He enjoys putting fear in his defenders eyes. I watched him go for 44 points with 9 three’s versus B-Maze Elite at our Big Shots Rocky Top tournament in Gatlinburg, Tennessee while playing for EAB. It was one of the more legendary performances in Big Shots 13 year history.

He is an underrated passer as well. I think people will be impressed with his play making ability at the point guard position when he steps on campus. Johnson does a good job at being able to get his shot off even with a hand in his face. I’ve watched him get hit or nicked on many jump shots, but the end result is still a make. Defensively, it goes back to the fearless competitor he is. He takes pride in getting in a stance and takes it personal when he gets scored on. I think over the next few years with adding weight that you are looking at a future All-Conference player in the Atlantic Sun.

Johnson was one of my favorite players to scout this past circuit season with the evident passion that he played with. He is one of those guys who don’t hear too much about being outside of the Top 250 players in the nation, but will a player that you win NCAA Tournament games with.
